Delaware City Race Location: 2014 – 2018

For 5 years from 2014 to 2018, & 15K was held in historic Delaware City, DE. The 15K course was an out and back for the first 3 years, flat and fast, from the foot of Clinton Street, out Cox Neck Road, onto the Biddles Point trail head, and onto the Michael Castle C&D Canal Path. Water stations are at the 5K turnaround on Cox Neck Road and at the parking lot entrance to the Michael Castle Canal path. The two final years featured a loop with return all along the canal.

Directions to Race Start

From I-95, take Delaware Route 1 to Rte 72/Rte 9 to Delaware City. Left on Washington St. for parking. Then walk to foot of Clinton Street for registration and start/finish.

Dear Delaware Distance Classic 15K or 5K Participant:

The 15K race starts at 9:00am from the foot of Clinton Street in historic Delaware City.  Delaware City is an easy 20 minute drive from the Christiana Mall.   Exit at Rte 72 from DE-1 or US 13 and follow the PCVRC or DDC signs into Delaware City.  Race day registration and packet pickup will open at 7:30 am at start/finish.  The 5K race will start after the 15K field clears the starting area.

There is plenty of free street parking within Delaware City.  Do NOT park on Clinton Street but you may park on any of the adjacent streets.   There is also a 150 space lot on Washington Street at Front Street and an auxiliary parking lot at the fire company, located on 5th Street (Route 9) before you head into town (1/2 mile away).  There are restrooms at Battery Park and we will also have Porta Pots at the Start/Finish.

USATF Mid Atlantic 15K championships.  $750 in prize money.  3 deep 5 year age groups – from Under 20 to 75 and Over in the 15K.  $400 in bonus cash if 15K event records are set.  Overall winners (3 deep and top masters cannot double dip).  Random mid pack awards.   Orange Gatorade, Water, and Bananas at the start/finish and on course.   3 water stations.  A post race party with food and a DJ at Battery Park (at the Start/Finish)

The 15K course is a flat and fast, out and back loop, from the foot of Clinton Street in Delaware City.  The course proceeds out Cox Neck Road, onto the Michael Castle C&D Canal Path via the Biddles Point trail head,  The course heads towards St. Georges and after a turnaround returns to Delaware City via the new Delaware City connector on the Michael Castle canal path.  Note: two way traffic on part of the canal path.

The 5K course follows same course as 15K with a turnaround after approximately 1.5 miles to return to the foot of Clinton Street.
